A woman who police said deliberately coughed on another woman and her baby at a yogurt store in California has lost her job. 

The Oak Grove School District said in a statement over the weekend that the woman alleged to have engaged in the conduct is no longer an employee of the district. It did not name the former employee.

“The Oak Grove School District’s highest priority is the safety of our students and the well-being of all of the children in the community we serve,” the district said. “We do not tolerate conduct from any employee that compromises any child’s safety.”

Last month, San Jose police said they were searching for a woman accused of deliberately coughing on another woman and her 1-year-old baby at a local Yogurtland. The woman was identified as a white female in her 60s. 

She coughed on the woman and her baby, who was in a stroller, after she got upset that the other woman was not maintaining proper social distancing, police said at the time. Police also released surveillance video footage of the incident that appeared to show the woman taking off her mask and coughing toward the woman and the stroller. 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends people maintain at least six feet of distance between each other to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus. The virus can be spread through droplets when a person coughs, sneezes or talks, according to the CDC.
