In June 2020, West was charged with five counts of assault and robbery against Fox 45 journalists during demonstrations outside Baltimore City Hall. An attorney representing West said that the charges were unsubstantiated. West said in response to the charges, "The charges and trumped up allegations against me are just an example of a culture that exploits and dehumanizes people of color like myself. I am a firm believer that when the hate don’t work, they begin to tell lies. They start telling lies on me and the people that look like me." The Baltimore Sun reported that West was arrested and released on his own recognizance on June 8, 2020. According to court records, West's case was transferred from the District Court for Baltimore City to the Circuit Court for Baltimore City on April 16, 2021. His next court appearance was set for December 22, 2021, and later moved to January 31, 2022. On March 28, 2022, a stet was entered and West's case was closed.
