Rep. Peter Welch (D) easily won the Democratic primary in Vermont’s only congressional district on Tuesday, making it likely he will win an eighth term in November.
Welch won with more than 95 percent of the vote with 15 percent of precincts reporting, according to The Associated Press. He beat out Ralph Corbo, who was also running in the separate gubernatorial primary.
Welch first entered Congress in 2007, succeeding Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) when he was elected to the Senate. He has won all of his reelection bids by a landslide.
