United Airlines is planning to add an additional 3,500 daily domestic flights to its routes in December to meet anticipated holiday demands, according to ABC News.

United expects "pent-up demand" to impact holiday bookings as vaccines have rolled out and the delta surge declines. 

"We're seeing a lot of pent-up demand in our data and are offering a December schedule that centers on the two things people want most for the holidays: warm sunshine and fresh snow," Ankit Gupta, vice president of network planning and scheduling at United, said in a press release.

"We know families and friends are eager to reunite this holiday season, which is why we're thrilled to add new flights that will help them connect and celebrate together."

Travel fell dramatically over the pandemic, and as recently as August and September, amid the delta surge, flight bookings plummeted to 35 percent below pre-pandemic levels.

United has stated that the busiest travel days are expected to be the day before Thanksgiving and Nov. 28.

Dec. 23 and Jan. 2 are also expected to be in high demand.
