Two arrested at Washington state Capitol as legislature convenes
Two people were arrested in separate incidents Monday at Washington's state Capitol building as tensions nationwide continue to linger after the U.S. Capitol was overrun on Wednesday.
Multiple news reports indicated that a man who demanded the right to witness the goings-on of the state legislature was arrested after attempting to breach a police barricade, with law enforcement officials saying the unidentified man refused to comply with a lawful police order.
A woman was also arrested after using an RV to block traffic on a road near the Capitol building, while several others were reportedly inside the vehicle at the time and complied with a police order to leave the scene.
In a statement, a spokesman for the Capitol's security force told local news affiliate KOMO that law enforcement was preparing for large-scale protests or violence following the events of Wednesday's riot at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
"We're expecting anything," Chris Loftis told the news station. "This could be a large groups heavily armed belligerent coming through with the intent to do harm — and we are certainly ready for that."
At least five people were killed last week, including a Capitol Police officer, after Trump supporters in Washington, D.C., to protest the counting of Electoral College votes in Congress stormed the Capitol.
