Policy Positions

California State Legislative Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Abortion & Reproductive

1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
- Pro-life

2. Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
- Yes

3. Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
- Yes

4. Other or expanded principles
- Abortion providers and clinics should be funded through private organizations and donations and not taxpayer funds. Funding of special interest groups through taxpayer funds is unfair to many who do not support those groups or ideas.

Budget, Spending, & Tax

Budget Stabilization:

Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing California's budget.

1. Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
- No

2. Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees?
- No

3. Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients?
- No

4. An income tax increase on any tax bracket?
- No

5. Other or expanded principles
- Reducing current state employees salaries is not the answer. Neither is reducing pensions and mandatory layoffs and furloughs. This will create a hardship for many of these employees. The employees did not cause the problem. California should resort to a part-time legislature and reduce the salary and benefits for politicians. California also needs to stop wasteful spending on things like the bullet train. California does not have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem. Taxing residents and taking away their livelihood will hurt the residents, forcing them to leave the state for a more affordable place.

Campaign Finance & Government Reform

1. Do you support any limits on campaign contributions to state candidates?
- No

2. Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
- Yes

3. Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
- Yes

4. Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
- Yes

5. Do you support repealing California's nonpartisan blanket primary election system?
- Yes

6. Other or expanded principles
- I am not in favor of limiting campaign contributions. I do believe in transparency and believe that any candidate receiving campaign donations from PACs, unions and corporations should identify the people behind those. It is important to know exactly who is supporting the candidate.

Crime & Public Safety

1. Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
- Yes

2. Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
- No

3. Should a minor accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
- Yes

4. Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
- Yes

5. Other or expanded principles
- I am opposed to SB54 the Sanctuary State law California passed. I believe it is illegal. For the safety of all citizens and public safety, there needs to be a working relationship between federal and local law enforcement.

Economic

1. Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
- No

2. Do you support lowering state taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
- Yes

3. Do you support reducing state government regulations on the private sector?
- Yes

4. Do you support expanding access to unemployment benefits?
- No

5. Do you support requiring welfare applicants to pass a drug test in order to receive benefits?
- Yes

6. Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of California?
- No

7. Do you support expanding state public housing programs?
- No

8. Other or expanded principles
- If taxes are lower and there is less regulations on businesses, we will see an increase in economic growth. Business growth increases jobs. When you have a population who are working and paying lower taxes, they spend more. When they spend more, business do better and can expand. It is a win win situation. Increasing minimum wage hurts businesses and also reduces jobs. Fast food restaurants are moving to kiosks for ordering as it is less expensive than paying for employees.

Education

1. Do you support adopting federal education standards in California?
- No

2. Do you support state funding for charter schools?
- Yes

3. Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from California high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
- No

4. Other or expanded principles
- The federal government may have suggestions as to what the education standards should be, but those should be set by each state, and most preferred at the local level. Charter schools should be funded by the state, just as public schools are. If public schools have to compete with schools for students and funding, we would most likely see an increase of the quality of public schools. In state tuition should only be for those lawfully here in the United States, and legal residents of the state.

Environment & Energy

1. Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
- No

2. Do you support state government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions?
- No

3. Do you support increasing state funding for clean drinking water initiatives?
- No

4. Do you support permanent statewide water usage restrictions?
- No

5. Other or expanded principles
- California has passed several bonds meant to save water and build water storage, and have failed. They waste money, and millions of gallons of water are dumped into the ocean. Rationing water is not the answer either. We need sensible storage solutions. All of the regulations on greenhouse gas emissions have strangled many businesses and forced them to move out of state. Wasteful spending on renewable energy, regulations, water rationing are all harmful to the state and will lead the state to bankruptcy if we do not stop.

Gun

1. Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
- No

2. Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?
- No

3. Should teachers be allowed to bring guns into the classroom?
- Yes

4. Should a license be required for gun ownership?
- No

5. Other or expanded principles
- The Constitution of the United States gives citizens the right to gun ownership. In fact, it states that the right "shall not be infringed." Gun control keeps guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens. Bad guys will always find ways to obtain guns. The right to carry, whether it is the general citizen or teachers in a classroom should be legal. I am in favor of requiring training in firearms in order to be allowed to bring a gun into a classroom, or carry on oneself.

Health

1. Should the state government increase funding for treatment facilities to combat opioid abuse?
- No

2. Do you support Medicaid expansion through California's health care programs?
- No

3. Do you support requiring individuals to purchase health care insurance?
- No

4. Do you support legislation that grants citizens the right to choose to die through euthanasia?
- No

5. Do you support eliminating religious exemptions for vaccinations?
- No

6. Other or expanded principles
- I really think we need to try and get government out of healthcare. Privatizing healthcare creates competition, and competition increases quality and lowers prices. Health care insurance should not be required, but an option. The issue I have with legislation allowing citizens to die through euthanasia is that I can see it could be abused. People should have the right to die with dignity, but I don't know that euthanasia is the answer. I also oppose mandatory vaccinations, whether it be for religious or health reasons.

Social

1. Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in California's anti-discrimination laws?
- No

2. Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in California's anti-discrimination laws?
- No

3. Do you support greater efforts by California state government in closing the pay gap between men and women?
- No

4. Do you support California's "Sanctuary State" immigration policies?
- No

5. Other or expanded principles
- Discrimination is not good, but when you bring so many things into it - gender identity, sexual orientation - it just seems to muddy the water. Discrimination is wrong, no matter who it is against. I really don't see the pay gap between men and women. I know many women who make more than men. Pay should not be based on sex, but on qualifications and quality of work. I am totally opposed to California's "Sanctuary State" immigration policies. It puts law enforcement at risk, and protects illegal violent criminals.

Legislative Priorities

In the following area, please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- My top priorities are taxes and crime. I would repeal the recently enacted car and gas tax. This money will not be spent to fix roads, but instead siphoned off to pay for pet projects. I would also work to repeal soft on crime bills such as AB109, Props 47 and 57, along with recently passed SB10 and AB1810. These bills reduce criminal sentences, let criminals out of jail early and without bail, reduce violent crimes down to misdemeanors, and allow a mental heath diversion to avoid prison. These bills favor the criminal while putting citizens safety as risk.
