1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
- Pro-choice
2. Other or expanded principles
- I believe that abortion should be safe, legal, and rare.
1. In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
- Yes
2. In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
- Yes
3. Other or expanded principles
- On my first day in office, I will submit a bill to Deauthorize the Authorizations for Use of Military Force (AUMF) in both Afghanistan and Iraq. I will never support an offensive military operation unless it is presented as a Declaration of War.
1. Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
- Yes
2. Other or expanded principles
- I support publicly funded elections and the overturning of the Citizens United decision.
1. Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
- Yes
2. Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
- No
3. Other or expanded principles
- Lowering taxes on corporations has never done anything to spur economic growth. As we've seen with the Trump Tax Cuts, corporations have used that money to reward shareholders with stock buybacks and have added to the Buyback Bubble by taking on record debt. These corporations did not use those tax cuts to innovate, to invest in infrastructure, to invest in human capital, or to grow. They simply used them as handouts to their rich stockholders.
1. Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
- Yes
2. Other or expanded principles
- While states should be allowed to craft curriculum specific to their region, every student should graduate high school meeting minimum standards in reading, writing, math, and civics.
1. Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
- Yes
2. Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
- Yes
3. Other or expanded principles
- I support a nationwide Cap and Trade System.
1. Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
- Yes
2. Other or expanded principles
- As a gunowner and a hunter, I support responsible gun ownership and use. This means universal background checks, a ban on the sale of weapons of war, and the repeal of gun manufacturer immunity.
1. Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
- Yes
2. Other or expanded principles
- But only as a placeholder until we pass Medicare-for-All and, eventually, establish a British-style National Health System.
1. Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
- No
2. Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
- No
3. Other or expanded principles
- I support the DACA, but I would not allow blanket amnesty for all persons illegally present in the United States.
1. Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
- Yes
2. Other or expanded principles
- As a former state and federal prosecutor, I know that there is no bigger waste of our precious law enforcement resources than enforcing the federal prohibition on marijuana. Every dollar spent investigating marijuana could be used to bring Wall Street greedheads to justice for destroying our economy.
1. Should the United States use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a nuclear weapon?
- No
2. Do you support increased American intervention in Middle Eastern conflicts beyond air support?
- No
3. Other or expanded principles
- We are not a fair broker in the Middle East. The United States needs to have a long "cooling off" period before we even think of engaging in another misadventure in the most volatile region of the world.
Please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- 1. Providing universal, not-for-profit as a guaranteed right of citizenship. This starts with Medicare-for-All and leads to the eventual establishment of a British-style National Health System.2.
