Post-high school education is the keystone to a secure future. Every child deserves a basic education that opens the door to any vocational, technical, community, or four-year school that they choose to attend. Quality education gives students wings; sub-standard education can imprison them. Schools that receive state funding should meet state standards.
Rural Washington students do not have access to high quality private schools. The key to making education succeed in the 7th LD is to making our public schools—the pillars of our communities—succeed. Public school teachers and programs should be funded as if they hold the key to the district's future, because they do.
The 7th Legislative District is a rural district, but it does not need to be a stagnant district. We can revitalize Main Street by looking forward--not backward--and by encouraging growth in industries that make our youth want to build their lives at home. The modern United States is more connected than ever. We want to take advantage of that to connect modern industry to the majesty and freedom of our greatest asset, our public lands. The 7th Legislative District is a place where hard-working tech professionals can step out of work and spot at the next mountain to conquer or lake to swim. We can make that happen.
Loggers, cattle ranchers, hunters, fishers, hikers, and campers all rely on productive, healthy ecosystems. The public lands of the 7th Legislative District exemplify the best the west has to offer: open plateaus, tree-covered mountains, and clear blue lakes rife with fish. Our public lands are a symbol of the free and healthy spirit of our District and we want to keep it that way. We can grow our economy and capitalize on the allure of our public lands while doing everything we can to make sure our great-grandchildren can enjoy the same quality of life.
After serving in the US Navy for four years, I spent my 30-year career serving the active military overseas as a federal employee. I am not done yet. Now I have the opportunity to serve military members when they most need help, as veterans. I am dedicated to bringing 7th LD veterans the highest quality services and care. Rural veterans deserve the same ease of access to veteran services that urban veterans have and I am dedicated to making that happen.
