Policy Positions

Alaska Congressional Election 2016 Political Courage Test

Abortion

1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
- Pro-life

2. Other or expanded principles
- Life is the best choice, and should be protected at all stages and at all times from conception. If the choice between life of mother and infant are at stake with all possibilities exhausted it is up to the mother after all is done to save the life of both.

Budget

1. In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
- No

2. In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
- No

3. Other or expanded principles
- Certain levels of working credits are a positive and should be considered, to help promote an active and skilled labor force. Also for budget cuts, all levels of bureaucracy should be audited and contracts changed to meet specific needs. At times their are excess staff and an in balance in government. Many DOD contracts need to be based on need and contingency. If we are smart with our contracts, all objectives and missions will be met. Many wasteful programs are offered and training dollars drained by programs can be done virtually where travel costs to the departments can be eliminated.

Campaign Finance

1. Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
- Yes

2. Other or expanded principles
- There are many hidden agendas and ideas that are masked by lobbyists. This is a problem in the higher offices and the best at this is one of my the current members of congress that I am running to replace. He has had multiple votes for non disclosure and this is what I am for is full disclosure as far as add ons and favors are concerned within the congress. Additionally, I feel that it is necessary to curb the spending habits and fund raising habits of politicians. I am cautious person as far as spending and campaign budgets go.

Crime

1. Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
- Yes

2. Do you support alternatives to incarceration for certain non-violent offenders such as mandatory counseling or substance abuse treatment?
- Yes

3. Do you support mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders?
- Yes

4. Other or expanded principles
- These penalties or punishments need to be served in order motivate individuals to choose wisely and be productive members of our society. Justice must not rob mercy, in order to keep everything balanced within our communities. Principled judges need to be installed to keep us safe and prosperous regardless of what media and others say. Standards have to be met and followed up on to promote communites of responsiblity. There must be laws that protect and law abiding citizens who follow them so that we can have our individual rights. Laws need to restrict illegal acts and promote legal activity.

Economy

1. Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
- No

2. Do you support lowering taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
- Yes

3. Do you support providing tax incentives to businesses for the purpose of job creation?
- Yes

4. Other or expanded principles
- The more independent and motivated the private sector is, the better products and services will be. Less regulation, will have a profound effect upon individuals. The more motivated some one is to create a space that is better for them and their environment the better business will be and the more others will want to share and build. When there is a drop in quality of life among any level in society, we all suffer and share in the out come. When we have bounty and balance the communities will not only have what they want but what they need.

Education

1. Do you support requiring states to implement education reforms in order to be eligible for competitive federal grants?
- No

2. Other or expanded principles
- It depends on the type of education. A more technical type middle/high school with less regulated electives and standards that enable students to excel or exceed the maximum standards through individual effort. There are restrictions with in the schools that promote and limit individual growth. With technology, students can become more independent in their learning and better overall students by having and meeting deadlines and finding career ideas that meet their interests. Less time in the classroom, more time in individual or independent study. Even a four day school week, students set their own schedule and choose independent study day.

Energy

1. Do you support building the Keystone XL pipeline?
- Yes

2. Do you support funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
- No

3. Do you support increased regulations on the hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") industry?
- No

4. Other or expanded principles
- I am for less regulation across the board. I would consider building it again if Canada was less restrictive on the materials required and insisting on using their materials. With only minor changes in how it is managed and what needs to be done in order to secure and maintain it across the US and Canada, it may provide for a productive way to safely transport oil to market. So I would support it for a number of reasons but it all depends on the costs and our ability to secure the resources needed to make it productive.

Environment

1. Do you believe that human activity is contributing to climate change?
- No

2. Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
- No

3. Other or expanded principles
- I feel that the measures taken to curb the effects of green house gas are a good idea and more should come from the private sector. More choices for those who feel strongly about the climate. More choices for those who disagree with change. In general I feel that we are in between an Ice age and that we should be conservative in our consumption and fair in the regulation of energy. I feel their are proven clean energies such as coal and other ways to reduce the effects of man made or natural environmental changes such as wild fires.

Guns

1. Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
- No

2. Other or expanded principles
- We need to have the freedom to protect and defend ourselves. There is no better way to do this than what is shown in our second amendment right. There needs to be a balance to prevent crime and every individual needs to be able to defend themselves without being oppressed or attacked as in other unstable parts of the world. We need more law abiding citizens who support our freedoms and our way of life.

Health Care

1. Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
- Yes

2. Other or expanded principles
- Another big government imbalance that should not be forced. It is a law that is lawless in its core. To force a person to accept care and pay a set amount for that care with limiting choices is not what healthcare should be. This is a perfect example of what is not right in our country. The costs are more than the benefits and our ability for healthcare options are more limited than ever.

Immigration

1. Do you support requiring illegal immigrants to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
- Yes

2. Other or expanded principles
- If they entered the country as an adult, meaning they were of legal age and broke the law, they should return to their country or pay required fees and get in line pay the fine and move behind the legal immigrant. Even those who are under the minimum legal age to enter the country should get behind the others and wait their turn to be naturalized if it is what they desire and they are at least 18 or have one parent who has met the legal requirements to be a citizen. Visas should be maintained until award of citizenship.

Marriage

1. Do you support same-sex marriage?
- No

2. Other or expanded principles
- I support traditional relationships. I feel that even though you have the right to declare otherwise, it is important to protect the traditional family. It is disingenuous to make changes and then declare one day one thing and another day another thing. A stable family of father, mother, sister and brother, is and always will be the basis of our society. The more we protect the family the better and more productive our society will be. I feel strongly in the family should remain as it is now, and how it will always be as designed by our creator.

National Security

1. Do you support targeting suspected terrorists outside of official theaters of conflict?
- Yes

2. Should the U.S use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the United States from possessing a nuclear weapon?
- Yes

3. Other or expanded principles
- They need to be found and soundly defeated.

Social Security

1. Do you support allowing individuals to divert a portion of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts?
- Yes

2. Other or expanded principles
- This will add to the security and make the decisions more individual and it may create an atmosphere of investing in our economy. If it can be rolled into the current contract with the social security administration and provide expanded options to draw from for those who are retirement age. I think that there should be a more secure option for those who wish to secure and privatize their accounts. This would revolutionize the way we invest in our economy and provide a level of security individuals seek to protect in their social security that they pay into.

Spending and Taxes

Spending

Indicate what federal spending levels (#1-6) you support for the following general categories. Select one number per category; you can use a number more than once.

1. Agriculture
- Slightly Decrease

2. Arts
- Slightly Decrease

3. Defense
- Slightly Increase

4. Education
- Maintain Status

5. Environment
- Greatly Decrease

6. Homeland Security
- Maintain Status

7. International aid
- Slightly Decrease

8. Medical Research
- Maintain Status

9. Scientific Research
- Maintain Status

10. Space exploration
- Greatly Decrease

11. United Nations
- Eliminate

12. Welfare
- Slightly Decrease

13. Other or expanded categories
- I think that even by decreasing in several areas, the need for more will drive an opportunity in the private sector to fill the gap or the perceived gap. I feel that we need to increase areas that have a value added. For example Education should fit the needs of the states. Also there may be more decrease areas based on what can be privatized to balance out the overall spending. How much opportunity could be given the states in the area of the environment, with legislation giving more rights and land to the states to manage as needed.

Taxes

Indicate what federal tax levels (#1-6) you support for the following general categories. Select one number per category; you can use a number more than once.

1. Capital gains taxes
- Slightly Decrease

2. Corporate taxes
- Slightly Decrease

3. Small business taxes
- Slightly Decrease

4. Excise taxes (alcohol)
- Maintain Status

5. Excise taxes (cigarettes)
- Maintain Status

6. Excise taxes (transportation fuel)
- Slightly Decrease

7. Income taxes (low-income families)
- Maintain Status

8. Income taxes (middle-income families)
- Slightly Decrease

9. Income taxes (high-income families)
- Maintain Status

10. Inheritance taxes
- Slightly Decrease

11. Payroll taxes
- Maintain Status

12. Other or expanded categories
- So by decreasing taxes on those hit the hardest in the last few years, we are able to infuse money into the economy and allow markets to expand and build based on less regulations and restriction. The increased activity will follow with a more stable economy and a greater ability for individuals to meet needs, grow families and build wealth. This productivity will translate into greater revenues for the de-regulated states to add wealth and strengthen the US economy.

Administrative Priorities

Please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- My top three priorities are protecting the constitution, federal deregulations of state owned lands and the lowering of taxes go grow the middle class. In addition to this I will look to strengthen our national defense and protect the rights of veterans. As veteran of 22 years, I feel that many government agencies need to be right sized and fulfill the needs of our veterans and service members. Doing more with more and strengthening the middle class. We are only as good as those who do the work to make us great. Adding conservative judges to the Supreme Court.
