Favorite President and Why:

George Washington is my favorite president. He was a man of integrity. He did not seek the office of president. He reluctantly accepted the position when chosen by the electors. He was a man of courage. He demonstrated this many times in both the French Indian War and the Revolutionary War. On many occasions he was miraculously protected. He was a prayerful man. He recognized our dependence on God.

Priority Issues:

The purpose of government is to protect our God-given rights of life, liberty, and property. This will be my guide as I consider legislation.

  • I. Life: I will stand firm on the right to life giving a voice to the unborn and treating the elderly with dignity and respect.
  • II. Liberty: A. Promoting a free market system by eliminating burdensome government regulation. Having an environment that is friendly to entrepreneurs is essential. B. Supporting laws that preserve parents' rights to choose between public, private, or home education. Recognizing that parents are accountable to God, not the state, in raising their children. C. Keeping local police free from federal control. Educating them in Constitutional principles so they protect the citizens' rights. D. Right to bear arms: An armed citizenry is a safer citizenry.
  • III. Property: A. Refusing to support programs that take the possessions of one (through taxes) to give to another. Taking care of those who are unable to care for themselves through private organizations such as churches and voluntary giving. B. Eliminating property tax once you hold the title. Doing away with restrictions on what you are able to do with your property as long as it does not adversely affect a neighbor.
  • Reason for Seeking Public Office:

It is not to feather my own nest. I do not have a business for which I am seeking perks. I do not work for the state. I do not have conflicts of interest. I am running because the flame of liberty burns within my heart. I am deeply concerned at the growth of our state government. It is encroaching into our personal lives.

    Policy Positions

Utah Congressional Election 2012 Political Courage Test

    Abortion

    1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
    - Pro-life

    2. Other or expanded principles
    - No Answer

    Afghanistan

    1. Do you support United States' combat operations in Afghanistan?
    - No

    2. Do you support a timetable for withdrawal from Afghanistan?
    - Yes

    3. Other or expanded principles
    - This is an undeclared war. According to Article I, Section 8 of the U S Constitution only Congress is authorized to declare war. In this same section, Congress can grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal. This could have been used to go after Osama Bin Laden. The timetable is to pull out the equipment and troops as quickly and safely as possible.

    Budget

Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing the federal budget.

In order to balance the budget,

    1. do you support reducing defense spending?
    - Yes

    2. do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
    - No

    3. do you support reducing Medicaid spending?
    - Yes

    4. do you support reducing Medicare spending?
    - Yes

    5. Is balancing the budget a legislative priority?
    - Yes

    6. Other or expanded principles
    - Defense spending can be reduced by closing installations outside of the United States. We need to protect our own borders. Medicaid and Medicare, although unconstitutional, need to be phased out in a way that will allow people to move to other options. This would probably take at least ten years.

    Campaign Finance

    1. Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
    - Yes

    2. Other or expanded principles
    - It should be individuals that voluntarily contribute to campaigns.

    Capital Punishment

    1. Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
    - Yes

    2. Other or expanded principles
    - No Answer

    Economy

    - No

    - No

    5. Do you support the 2010 temporary extension of tax relief?
    - No

    6. Other or expanded principles
    - My idea of tax relief is to repeal the 16th amendment. Taxing businesses at all is a bad idea. It becomes a hidden tax to the consumer and stifles growth. Government should not be regulating the private sector.

    1. Do you support requiring states to implement education reforms in order to be eligible for competitive federal grants?
    - No

    2. Other or expanded principles

    - Yes

    4. Other or expanded principles
    - Every person who comes illegally lessens the opportunity for those trying to come legally and who truly want to assimilate into the American way of life from being able to come. There are people who want to come here, learn our language, learn how to live under the rule of law, and contribute to society.

    Marriage

    1. Do you support same-sex marriage?
    - No

    2. Other or expanded principles
    - No Answer

    - No

    2. Should the U.S use military force in order to prevent Iran from possessing a nuclear weapon?

    Social Security

    1. Do you support allowing individuals to divert a portion of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts?
    - Yes

    10. Payroll taxes
    - Eliminate

    11. Other or expanded categories
    - States should be allowed to tax fuel or have tolls in order to maintain their highways. That is the only thing those taxes should be used for. I do support tariffs.

    Administrative Priorities

Please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
    - My number one priority is to get us out of the United Nations. My second priority is to bring our troops home. My third priority is to return power and responsibility back to the people and the states (9th and 10th amendment) and give the states federally held land (other than for forts and military installations). I will vote against any bill that is unconstitutional, which means I will usually vote no.
