Angelle was first elected to the commission on November 6, 2012. He served on the commission between his swearing-in in January 2013 and his May 2017 resignation to lead the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, a post he was appointed to by President Donald Trump.

Angelle was the Louisiana Secretary of Natural Resources. He was appointed by Gov. Kathleen Blanco in 2004. He resigned on August 8, 2012, in order to run for the Louisiana Public Service Commission.
