Pro-Kamala Harris super PAC preps Iowa TV blitz
December 3, 2019A super PAC formed by Kamala Harris allies has started reserving TV airtime across Iowa, offering a potential boost for the California senator's presidential campaign.
The group, People Standing Strong, lists Harris donor Quinn Delaney as its treasurer and previously listed Stephen J. Kaufman, Harris' Los Angeles-based longtime political attorney. Delaney and her husband, Wayne Jordan, own Jordan Real Estate Investments, and she is also founder and board chair of the Akonadi Foundation, along with longtime Harris confidant Lateefah Simon.
Reached Tuesday, Simon said Delaney told her she may receive press calls for her PAC, but that she’s out of the country and unavailable. Simon said she did not know about the ad buy or its content.
Harris' campaign has not been on the air in Iowa in three months, since the first week of September — and has warned supporters that she needs to dramatically increase her own fundraising to begin airing a new contrast ad with Donald Trump. That 50-second video drew millions of views online.
Harris said earlier this year that she did not want the support of a super PAC in the Democratic presidential primary. But in recent weeks, her advisers have acknowledged that her struggling campaign may not have the money to spread her message in Iowa on its own.
Advertising Analytics, a TV ad-tracking service, has tracked nearly $300,000 worth of advertising reserved by People Standing Strong so far — a number that could rise as the buy continues to come in. The ads will begin airing tomorrow in four media markets across Iowa.
