Poll: Biden leads Trump in North Carolina

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has a single-digit lead in North Carolina, according to a new poll, earning the support of more than half of likely voters surveyed in a key swing state President Donald Trump won in 2016.
An NBC News/Marist poll released Friday, four days from Election Day, reports that 52 percent of North Carolina likely voters polled prefer Biden and 46 percent favor Trump — a 6-point lead for the former vice president. According to the RealClearPolitics average of recent North Carolina surveys, Biden is 1.2 percentage points ahead of Trump in general election polling.
The state has toggled between supporting presidential nominees of both major parties in previous election cycles. Former President Barack Obama won North Carolina in 2008 but lost there to Republican nominee Mitt Romney in 2012. Trump carried the state in 2016, defeating then-Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton by 3.8 percentage points.
The NBC News/Marist poll also shows incumbent Republican Sen. Thom Tillis trailing by 10 percentage points in his hotly contested reelection race against Democrat Cal Cunningham. A majority of likely voters, 53 percent, support Cunningham, while 43 percent support Tillis. The RealClearPolitics average of recent North Carolina Senate polling has Cunningham with a 3.1-point lead.
The NBC News/Marist poll was conducted Oct. 25-28, surveying 800 North Carolina likely voters with a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4.7 percentage points.
