Poll: Biden leads Trump by 5 points in Wisconsin
October 7, 2020Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is ahead by 5 percentage points among likely voters in Wisconsin, according to a survey of the swing state that helped secure President Donald Trump’s victory four years ago.
A Marquette Law School poll released Wednesday reports that 46 percent of likely voters surveyed prefer Biden, while 41 percent prefer Trump. Four percent favor Libertarian presidential nominee Jo Jorgensen.
Biden’s lead represents a slight improvement on his performance in the previous version of the Marquette poll published last month, when he held a 4-point advantage over Trump, 47 percent to 43 percent.
The latest survey results closely align with other recent public polling of the White House race in Wisconsin. The RealClearPolitics average of polling in the state, which includes surveys from Sept. 20 to Oct. 5, shows Biden ahead of Trump by 5.5 points.
Trump won Wisconsin’s 10 electoral votes by 1 percentage point in 2016. The state is one of the three Midwestern battlegrounds, along with Michigan and Pennsylvania, most often mentioned as having propelled him to office.
The Marquette poll was conducted Sept. 30-Oct. 4, surveying 700 likely voters in Wisconsin with a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4.6 percentage points.
