Poll: Biden has narrow leads in Florida, Ohio
November 2, 2020
Democratic candidate Joe Biden has a narrow lead in the key states of Florida and Ohio, according to a Quinnipiac poll published just before Election Day.
In Florida, 47 percent of likely voters support Biden, while 42 percent support President Donald Trump, according to the poll released Monday. In Ohio, 47 percent support Biden and 43 support Trump. Nationally, Biden has a wide lead with 50 percent of likely voters supporting him to only 39 percent for Trump.
Florida likely voters skew toward a positive view of Biden, with 48 percent of respondents saying they view the Democrat favorably. Meanwhile 42 percent said they had a positive view of Trump. Ohio likely voters showed a similar view, with 47 percent of respondents having a favorable view of Biden and 42 percent having a positive one of Trump.
Florida is a crucial state where Trump has heavily invested his time and resources in the lead-up to Election Day. The winner in the state has won every presidential election since 1992, and it has the third most electoral votes. The state went for Trump in 2016, but it remains a toss-up this year, with FiveThirtyEight's polling average giving 48 percent support in the state for Biden and 47 percent for Trump.
Ohio is also a critical battleground that voted comfortably for Trump in 2016. The race is also a toss-up with the FiveThirtyEight polling average giving 47 percent support for Biden and 50 percent for Trump.
The Quinnipiac poll was conducting from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1. More than 1,600 likely voters were surveyed with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.4 percentage points. In Ohio, about 1,400 likely voters were surveyed with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.6 percentage points. Nationally, 1,515 likely voters were surveyed with a plus or minus 2.5 percentage point margin of error.
