On November 13, 2018, Capitol police arrested Williams and 14 other demonstrators during a protest at the Capitol. Williams was charged with misdemeanor obstruction of justice. The protest was organized by Black Lives Matter to insist on the counting of all absentee and provisional ballots in the 2018 state gubernatorial election. Demonstrators were participating in chants in the capitol rotunda. Authorities said the protest was disbanded after several warnings that chanting and yelling was prohibited while lawmakers were in session. Williams said she was not yelling or chanting: "I stood peacefully next to my constituents because they wanted their voices to be heard, and now I’m being arrested."
