Political Experience ofNicole Galloway

  • Missouri state auditor (2015-Present)

On April 14, 2015, Galloway was appointed by Gov. Nixon to serve as auditor until the completion of Schweich's term in January 2019. She replaced John Watson, who was appointed to serve as Schweich's replacement until a new auditor is sworn into office.

    Criticism of Galloway's appointment

Nixon's selection of Galloway to fill the auditor's seat earned rebukes from the state Republican Party. A statement issued by party officials argued that voters selected a Republican auditor in the 2014 election. The statement also noted:

The State Auditor should serve as an advocate for the people of Missouri by casting a critical eye towards the governor’s administration, but Nicole Galloway is entirely beholden to Jay Nixon

    Columbia Daily Tribune, (2015)

Members of the Missouri Legislative Black Caucus also lobbied Nixon to select an African-American candidate for auditor. There has never been an African-American official in a statewide executive office. Nixon reportedly met with Assistant House Majority Leader Gail Beatty (D) and St. Louis Comptroller Darlene Green prior to Galloway's appointment.

  • Boone County treasurer (2011 - 2015)

Governor Jay Nixon appointed Galloway as Boone County treasurer in April 2011 to replace the late Jan Fugit. He chose Galloway over the Boone County Democratic Central Committee's choice, Lisa Roland, who was the interim treasurer and the longtime office deputy. Galloway served as Boone County treasurer from then until April 2015, when she stepped down to begin her appointment as state auditor.
