Maurice “Mo” Green was born in New York, New York and lives in North Carolina. Green earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics and a law degree, both from Duke University, in 1988 and 1991, respectively. Green's career experience includes working the executive director of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation from 2016 to 2023, as superintendent of Guilford County Schools for seven years, and as general counsel for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. In that district, Green became chief operating officer in 2006 and then became deputy superintendent. Green began his career as a lawyer in private practice.
