In July 2020, the California Republican Party removed its endorsement of Cargile's campaign from its website days after Media Matters published a report on the candidate's Facebook activity. The report said Cargile "lists the QAnon slogan '#WWG1WGA' ('where we go one, we go all') on his Twitter profile and has tweeted his support for QAnon." In response, the campaign issued a statement saying, "Left-leaning, Media Matters, searches out any deviation from the far-left ideology and 0characterizes [sic] its targets as 'bigots and racists.'" Neither the California Republican Party nor Cargile's campaign made a statement at the time about the removal of Cargile's endorsement.
