Michelle's campaign website highlights the following issues:
We are fine with paying our fair share, but we want to know what our choices on the ballot will cost us. When many of us voted for ST3, we did not understand the costs, and now we want to see those costs made more reasonable. My opponent voted against that, while at the same her party is talking about a state income tax without putting it on the ballot. You deserve honesty: I will not vote for a state income tax, and I will fight to make sure you have an informed vote on taxes that affect your family.
Education should not be a partisan issue, and yet both parties in our state legislature won't stop using it as a wedge to push their agendas. Enough! Our students and teachers deserve better. I will fully fund education to empower every teacher to do what they do best: TEACH! Our children will only get a 21st century education by bringing creativity and innovation into our schools, led by our great teachers, not state bureaucrats.
Many of us worry about our community's future. Will legal immigrants continue to be welcomed and safe? Will the average worker be able to afford to live here? Will our streets remain safe from crime and drugs?
As a mother, I felt the pain as my son moved away because our community is too expensive. As a paralegal in foreclosure defense for the last 7 years, I have felt the anger as I watched banks homes from our neighbors and throw them out on the street. As your neighbor, I have been torn wanting to help those struggling with homelessness and drug addiction get help, but I don't think more prisons, shelters, or injection sites in our neighborhoods are the answer. As your state senator, I will fight to reduce costs of living, help those in trouble to get back on their feet, and lead by example in treating everyone with dignity.
As an independent Libertarian, I bring the best of both sides to the table - social inclusiveness, civil liberties, strong local communities, and smarter government - without being tied to a Democrat or Republican agenda locally or nationally. In a closely divided senate, I will hold both parties accountable for serving you instead of big party lobbyists.
I am honored to have your vote for me, Michelle Darnell, as State Senator for the 48th Legislative District.
