Comstock's 2012 and 2014 runs were called into question by the Gallatin County Democrats, who accused him of posturing in order to advance conservative causes. Committee member Billy McWilliams told the Bozeman Daily Chronicle that a resolution passed in 2013 to distance the county party from politically dishonest members was in response to Comstock as well as state House candidates Dane Peeples and Kathy Hollenback.
