Policy Positions

New Hampshire State Legislative Election 2016 Political Courage Test

Abortion & Reproductive

1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
- Pro-choice

2. Should abortions be illegal after the first trimester of pregnancy?
- Yes

3. Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
- Yes

4. Should abortion be legal when the life of the woman is endangered?
- Yes

5. Do you support requiring parental notification before an abortion is performed on a minor?
- No

6. Do you support requiring parental consent before an abortion is performed on a minor?
- No

7. Do you support the prohibition of public funds for abortion procedures?
- No

8. Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
- No

9. Other or expanded principles
- Abortions should be rare and legal. It is not the governments role to determine what a woman can do with her body. This decision should be made by the woman, her doctor and family if possible. There may be extenuating circumstances such as life of the mother that must be taken in consideration. Ideally a minor should be able to go to their parents however the parents may not be supportive. In this case counseling to try to work with parents and educate the young girl would be important.

Budget, Spending, & Tax

Budget Stabilization:

Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing New Hampshire's budget.

1. Tapping into New Hampshire's "rainy day" fund
- Yes

2. Decreasing funding for public universities
- No

3. Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions
- No

4. Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees
- No

5. Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients
- No

6. Other or expanded principles
- The rainy day fund if for a time of dire need when additional funds are needed. Especially when people lives and health are at stake. If there is no other way to balance the budget a portion of the fund could be used. The fund should also be replenished as quickly as possible.

State Spending:

Indicate what state funding levels (#1-6) you support for the following general categories. Select one level per category; you may use a number more than once.

1. Education (higher)
- Greatly Increase

- Slightly Increase

3. Environment
- Greatly Increase

4. Health care
- Maintain Status

5. Law enforcement/corrections
- Slightly Increase

6. Transportation/infrastructure
- Greatly Increase

7. Welfare
- Maintain Status

8. Other or expanded categories
- NH has one of the highest tuition rates in the country. More money should go to offsetting the cost of college. Full day kindergarten is needed for our children to start on the right foot and someday compete for jobs. We should increase incentives for renewable energy project residential and business.Medicaid expansion should be made permanent. It has assisted over 50,000 Granite Staters with basic healthcare and drug addition treatment.Rail may assist in economic development and keep young people in the state.

State Taxes:

Indicate what state tax levels (#1-6) you support for the following general categories. Select one level per category; you may use a number more than once.

1. Cigarette taxes
- Slightly Increase

2. Corporate taxes
- Maintain Status

3. Small business taxes
- Maintain Status

4. Gas/Oil taxes
- Slightly Increase

5. Property taxes
- Greatly Decrease

6. Income taxes (low-income families)
- Greatly Decrease

7. Income taxes (mid-income families)
- Maintain Status

8. Income taxes (high-income families)
- Maintain Status

9. Other or expanded principles
- Education is funded by our property taxes. This is punitive to retirees who live on a fixed income. I would like to see and small but broad Education tax to offset property taxes.

If there is a student that is going to a NH high school and graduates and they are on a path to becoming a citizen they should be able to continue on to college.
