Mary Lou Hennrich was born in Portland, Oregon. She earned a graduate degree from the University of Portland in 1979. Her career experience includes directing a nonprofit public health organization, founding and being the CEO of CareOregon, serving as the deputy director of the health department, and working as a nurse.
Hennrich has been affiliated with Healthcare for All Oregon, the Oregon Nurses Association, the NAACP, the Sierra Club, Trails Club of Oregon, the ACLU, the IMRJ, AttaGirl Giving Circle, the Multnomah County Democratic Party, the Oregon Public Health Association, the American Public Health Association, Planned Parenthood of the Columbia-Willamette, the Oregon Zoo, and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI).
