ActBlue reported that McCulloch received a substantial donation of at least $19,407 from the Secretary of State Project, a below-the-radar 527 political organization whose purpose is to "wrestling control of the country from the Republican Party" through the process of "removing their political operatives from deciding who can vote and whose votes will count," namely the office of Secretary of State in many cases.

Superintendent of Public Instruction (2001-2009)

McCulloch successfully ran for Superintendent of Public Instruction in the state in 2000 and was re-elected to the office in 2004.

Montana House of Representatives (1995-2001)

Linda McCulloch began her political career serving the people of Montana as a representative in the Montana State House of Representatives, being elected to the position in 1994. She retained the role for six years.

State law barred McCulloch from running for a third term as Superintendent of Public Instruction in 2008, so McCulloch chose to run for Secretary of State instead. She narrowly beat her Republican opponent, Brad Johnson, and officially took office in January 2009. MuCulloch successfully won re-election on November 6, 2012. She was term-limited and did not seek re-election in 2016.
