Kyle Kirkland was born in Virginia and lives in California. He earned an A.B., magna cum laude, from Harvard College in 1984 and an M.B.A. from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University in 1988. Kirkland's career experience includes working as a business owner; Kirkland founded an investment banking firm in 1994. From 1993 to 2011, Kirkland was chairman of Steinway Musical Instruments. Kirkland also served as president of the California Gaming Association. As of 2024, Kirkland was the director and board chair of the Fresno Chaffee Zoo.
