Kellyanne Conway on Bloomberg: 'America already elected a builder'
November 24, 2019White House Counselor Kellyanne Conway was quick to dismiss Michael Bloomberg’s “Rebuild America” presidential campaign Sunday, declaring “America already elected a builder.”
“His new ad that he put millions behind is all unicorns and rainbows. Keep your health care if you'd like to – and if you don't, I have something better. Rebuild America. We heard that from Obama-Biden,” Conway said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”
“Michael Bloomberg is saying rebuild America. America already elected a builder,” she asserted, referring to President Donald Trump’s real estate developer roots in New York.
Conway also took aim at the already-crowded Democratic presidential field that Bloomberg formally joined Sunday.
“The Democratic field is underwhelming, even to someone like Michael Bloomberg,” Conway said. "There are 18 Democrats still running for president of the United States ... with probably another 10 or 12 already dropped out of the race. And ... Michael Bloomberg [comes] in saying, 'I don't think any of you can beat Donald Trump.' For all the talk about electability, that's a fiction."
“There are 18 Democrats still running for president of the United States, and Michael Bloomberg is coming in saying, ‘I don't think any of you can beat Donald Trump.’”
The 77-year old billionaire and former mayor of New York launched his campaign Sunday with an online video, positioning himself, among other things, as a centrist alternative to former Vice President Joe Biden, who has been leading in the national polls.
Conway, though, suggested Bloomberg may not be welcomed by the rest of the Democratic field, several of whom have crafted their platforms in opposition to the ultra-wealthy.
“Is he welcome in his own Democratic Party?” Conway asked. “We have front-runners saying we don't want any billionaires in the country, let alone in the Democratic primary.”
Asked if she’d be happy if Trump faced Bloomberg in the general election, Conway didn’t hesitate.
“We're ready, how's that?” she said.
