Legislative Priorities

In the following area, on an attached page, or via e-mail, please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- One of my biggest priorities is a progressive income tax. Illinois has a constitutionally mandated flat tax. Amending the constitution to allow for a progressive tax structure would cut taxes for over 90% of our residents while providing adequate funding for critical state programs. While civil unions represent a step in the right direction, we must continue the fight for true marriage equality. Same sex couples continue to lack fundamental equal rights. Smart criminal justice policies with a focus on rehabilitation are essential to reducing recidivism, which saves money and improves public safety.
