Juana Cantu-Cabrera was born in Fort Huachuca, Arizona. Cantu-Cabrera earned an associate degree from Pan American University in 1988, a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Texas at Pan American in 1990, a graduate degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in 1994, and a doctorate from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 2008. Her career experience includes working as a nurse practitioner, a sexual assault nurse examiner, and an associate professor with the University of Texas at Pan American.
