Jim Gooch Jr. is a Republican member of the Kentucky House of Representatives, representing District 12. Gooch is running for re-election in the primary on May 22, 2018. The general election will take place on November 6, 2018. He was first elected to the chamber as a Democrat in 1994. Gooch changed his party affiliation to Republican in December 2015, citing differences with the Obama administration, particularly over coal.
Gooch is a legislative representative to the board of directors of the Green River Area Development District. He served as president of the Providence Chamber of Commerce, president of Providence Jaycees, and president of the Providence Ruritan Club. He served on the Providence City Council from 1990 to 1993 and was mayor of Providence from 1982 to 1986. Gooch's professional experience includes working as a district manager for an insurance company and Co-Owner of Western Kentucky Steel Construction Company Incorporated.
