On July 13, 2016, the state attorney general's office released a report that found that state Rep. Durham had inappropriate sexual conduct with 22 women affiliated with legislative activity. The state's investigation took five months and involved interviews with 78 people. The report detailed numerous instances of sexual harassment and Durham's affair with a 20 year-old college student inside his office in 2014. The report concluded that Durham's actions warrant expulsion from the Tennessee General Assembly. A special legislative committee left it up to the voters in District 65 to decide Durham's fate in the August 4 primary. He was defeated in the Republican primary by Sam Whitson.
