- As I move to the Senate after 12 years in the State House of Representatives, I expect to continue to lead policy and budget development in the area of human services, addressing issues relating to helping low income working families, working on improving conditions for children, and making further improvements to the correction system for juveniles and adults in Washington State to improve public safety. The Legislature will face additional challenges for the next 2-4 years in creating resources to adequately fund Washington's education system (early education through higher education) and implement the Affordable Care Act.
