On February 16, 2021, New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal announced that O'Donnell and four other former officials were indicted on bribery charges after accepting illegal campaign contributions. In 2018, O'Donnell allegedly accepted $10,000 in cash payments from a tax attorney, who served as the witness in the case, in exchange for work with the city. He was originally charged with second-degree bribery on December 19, 2019, as a result of a corruption investigation spanning two New Jersey counties.
