- To balance the budget we do not need to cut hardly any spending or to increase taxes. We simply need to hold down spending increases to below the rate of growth of the economy.

- The new tax law could have been made revenue neutral by making offsets in other areas to balance out the corporate tax cuts.

- I support a (revenue neutral) carbon tax to curtail carbon emissions. I would like to remove all tax subsidies for energy development.

- I support changes in the ACA to give individuals more responsibility for the costs of their own healthcare, such as moving to (high deductible) catastrophic insurance supplemented with health savings accounts.

- As China gains in economic and military strength, our best defense is to have lots of democratic allies around the world. To this end I support the establishment and extension of democratic procedures whenever and wherever we can do this effectively.

- My top priority by far is to fix our debt problem. We can do this by shrinking annual deficits with sensible budgeting and also controlling the cost of healthcare inflation along the lines I discussed above.
