- Public schools play a vital role in the lives of children and their future lives as adults. Accordingly, I allocated a large share of member initiative funds to direct grants to district public schools. I have supported "safe streets" legislation and measures to control handgun use and possesion. I have also opposed closed-door Springfield deals such as the Rosemont casino project, the SBC rate increase, and tax breaks for wealthy racetrack owners and beverage magnates.
