West Virginia State Auditor (1993 - 2016)
Glen Gainer served as West Virginia's state auditor from 1993 to 2016. First elected in 1992, he succeeded his father, who served as auditor from 1977 to 1993. Gainer announced in 2015 that he would not seek re-election in 2016, opting instead to take a job in the private sector. On April 14, 2016, Gainer announced he would step down from office effective May 14.
As auditor, Gainer served as:
- vice chairman of the West Virginia Consolidated Public Retirement Board
- trustee of the West Virginia Investment Management Board and chairman of its Audit Committee
- trustee of the West Virginia Board of Treasury Investments and chairman of its Investment Committee
- chairman of the Interstate Commerce Appeals Board
- a member of the Armory Board
- a member of the Board of Public Works; and
- a member of several other state boards and commissions
