We need to develop an economic environment whereby the private sector is encouraged to work with municipalities and educational institutions to rebuild our workforce. Innovation starts with the private sector and can be expanded through our educational system. The Political Establishment concentrates too much on minimum wages and standards. We need to promote skills, like S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), to increase the value of our workforce. Higher skills create higher wages. We need to stop using minimum wage and minimum work standards to control our workforce. We need to promote innovation to create environments that maximum income and wealth.
The world is changing faster than any time in history. As I help create an economic environment that promotes local business communities to provide guidance to our educational system, I will support entrepreneurship from S.T.E.M. based businesspeople. Our district and the surrounding area within a 15-mile radius has access to some of the world's greatest technology companies in diverse industries, such as Aeronautics, Entertainment, Green-Tech, Energy, Social Networking, Biotechnology, Finance, Insurance and Real Estate. There should be more effective federal assistance that will do more to promote local small businesses that will improve the various trades within our country.
Every Californian knows that freedom leads to prosperity. We need streamlined regulations that help create jobs and economic growth. A less cumbersome regulatory system will mean higher wages for workers across our congressional district and more opportunity for all.
The number one priority of the next Congress must be to repeal Obamacare. We need real and effective healthcare reform that empowers citizens to make their own healthcare decisions, not bureaucrats and politicians. Health insurance must be more personal and affordable. Specifically, we should allow for insurance to be purchased across state lines; and promote personalized health savings accounts, which will put you in charge of your healthcare. I believe we can create access to quality healthcare without killing our jobs or shrinking our paychecks.
Congress must also pass legislation that grants Congress the power to vote down major cost-inducing regulations and end harmful government bureaucracies that are strangling the economy of California.
We need tax reform that simplifies and lowers the tax rate for everyone. I support a fairer system that eliminates deductions for special interests who hire lobbying firms. This will help keep taxes low for everyone and create a more free and prosperous nation.
The United States remains one of the leading producers of manufactured goods in the world, but we can do better. Due to our policies regarding taxes, energy, and trade, it is more expensive to do business in the United States than in many of our largest trading partners. This must change. We should support American work, not tax it.
Our debt is over $20 trillion, and we owe a substantial portion of that to China. Our children and grandchildren will be saddled with a bill that will lead to a worsened standard of living. That is not acceptable and why I support a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution. The president and Congress should not be allowed to spend away our future because they are afraid to make difficult decisions today.
We need conservative Republicans in Congress to stand up not only to overspending Democrats, but fellow Republicans, as well.
The first inalienable right described in the Declaration of Independence is the right to life, and the job of Congress is to protect our rights, not take them away. That includes the lives of those yet unborn. Rather than treating pregnancy or children as a problem, we should work together to create a society that welcomes them into our communities with loving and open arms. We must remember that every person is a unique child of God, full of potential. As a member of Congress, I will protect the unborn and move the pro-life message forward.
For over two centuries the Second Amendment has guaranteed that our fellow citizens have the right to protect themselves. The right to bear arms is not just about hunting or target practice-it's about being a free nation. I will protect the Second Amendment.
One of the most recent examples of bureaucratic incompetence cost the health and lives of nearly 300,000 veterans who waited for care. Veterans have gone above and beyond to protect our way of life. They deserve a VA that does the same to provide quality, accessible healthcare to those who served. I will give my all to implement positive, effective reform.
I promise that I will only support the use of troops when it is absolutely necessary. When the threat requires the deployment of our military, I will ensure that our troops are trained and equipped to win decisively and return home to their families.
The government monopoly on education for a large proportion of Americans is a tragedy and should be viewed as the modern civil rights issue of our time. We need to offer education reform that supports more choice in education, from public schooling to home schooling. Moreover, the private sector should be more involved with the development of higher education because they are the impetus for hiring. Their input is necessary to shape our workforce and offer higher wages. Everyone in the United States deserves a great education.
Over the last decades, both parties have refused to implement common-sense reforms to the way Washington spends our money. The massive debt driven up by career politicians has created an uncertain future for our children and grandchildren.
That's wrong. We need members of Congress with the courage to balance the budget and actually cut spending.
The next Congress must implement zero-based budgeting so that the Federal Government can begin to get its fiscal house in order. That's why I have made zero-based budgeting a central part of my campaign.
I am strongly in favor of legal immigration. I believe our nation's immigration policies should put the interests of our citizens and working families first. While we can continue to be generous, immigration is a privilege, not a right, and we should never allow it for people who intend to do us harm, or who violate our immigration laws and 'cut in line' to come here.
The American people deserve to have secure national borders, and communities that are safe from foreign criminals and terrorists. While walls and fences can serve as deterrents at the border, to truly stop illegal immigration – including the estimated 40-50 percent of all illegals that simply overstay their visas – we must make the federal online E-Verify program that verifies a new employee's legal status before they are hired, mandatory for use by all employers.
In a world rapidly approaching eight billion people, we also need to be realistic and have immigration policies that protect the interests of US working families. That means having reasonable but still generous limits on legal immigration, and making sure that our visa system works as intended to serve genuine economic needs. But there is no excuse for the abuse of foreign work visas by some large corporations, who fire their American workers after forcing them to train their cheaper foreign worker replacements.
Finally, to preserve the unity of our unique 'melting pot' society, and promote the successful assimilation of new immigrants, we should make English our official language of government operations.
In Pennsylvania’s special election, Democrat Connor Lamb “flipped” a traditionally red district and won by regularly attacking Nancy Pelosi. In turn, many Democrat candidates in red districts are also criticizing Pelosi. This also opens the door for Republicans to do the same thing. They can flip traditionally blue districts with seats held by unpopular Democrats. The results of Pennsylvania’s special election should make the Democrat establishment anxious more than anything else. According to Politico, Lamb spent $10 million on advertisements that attacked other Democrats in the race who supported Pelosi. He labeled them as part of her “flock.” In the end, he was elected as a Democrat in a district that voted for President Donald Trump by over 20 percent. Flip it Red Going from one coast to another, Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., is facing multiple Republican opponents in the southern Los Angeles 43rd District. In a hypothetical one-on-one race, a November 2017 UnCut Report Facebook poll among registered voters shows the GOP’s Edwin Duterte within only a 6 percent margin of Waters. “Maxine Waters has been in office for over 27 years. She sponsored more than 400 bills, but only got 3 passed. That’s a 1% success rate.” Duterte told UCR in an interview. “If you (worked for) any company and (had) a 99% failure rate, do you think you should keep your job? I don’t think so.” The Democrat establishment is very unpopular, especially when it comes to notorious politicians like Maxine Waters. The Republicans can flip districts like that to red. “I know my race is very challenging. There is a path though,” Duterte told UCR. Minority Voters A big boost for Duterte is Trump’s growing approval rating among minorities. Nearly half of the 43rd District’s population is Hispanic and another quarter is African-American. Duterte can connect with the district’s minority voters, who according to nationwide surveys, are increasingly approving of Trump’s performance. Duterte’s parents immigrated from the Philippines several decades ago. Through hard work, education, and a respect for the legal process, they became citizens and achieved the American Dream. After growing up near Silicon Valley, Duterte himself went on to become a tech entrepreneur. A recent Breitbart article shows Trump’s approval rating among African Americans in 2017. SurveyMonkey rated it at 17 percent and CBS at 14 percent. This is double the 8 percent of black voters who supported Trump in 2016. The Breitbart article also explores how many people may have denied their support for Trump, mainly due to peer pressure. Support for the president among African Americans could actually be even higher. Furthermore, a Washington Examiner article, citing a Zogby Analytics poll, pointed out that the 45th president’s approval rating was at 45 percent among Hispanics. “From day one … (since Trump) was inaugurated, she has called him a racist and continues to call everybody that she doesn’t agree with a racist,” Duterte said. Waters “is all about divisiveness. And she has done little to help out the community.” Duterte stated in the interview that “the African-American community … the Hispanic/Latino community, and the Asian community, we all understand that there are challenges in our societies. And we need better breaks.” It’s the Economy, Stupid? Duterte wants to create a business friendly environment. “The left usually says government knows best,” he explained. But “if we run our economy like the way they run the DMV, then we’re … in trouble.” Duterte’s policy approach will build on Trump’s overall growing popularity, which is mainly due to lower unemployment rates and friendlier business environment. He believes refining the education system is one way to support business. His plan could allow communities in the district to benefit from free markets. “We all know that the new blue collar is coding,” he said. Duterte believes that the current education system needs more input from the private sector. He uses the example of Silicon Valley, where universities and tech companies worked together to modify educational curricula. The private sector was motivated to invest in students’ education because it made them more valuable employees. Duterte wants to offer tax incentives for businesses to work with universities on curricula and invest in tech education. “They formed incubator spaces for small business to thrive … With that competition, (the Bay Area attracted) startups like Twitter and Facebook … who now dominate.” He also criticized his opponent’s approach to economic issues. “Once you concentrate on the minimum wage, like my opponent Maxine Waters, you’re going to get minimum standards,” Duterte said. “If we … put together these little types of (business-friendly) environments … then we can have a better paying workforce.” Nothing to See Here? Rep. Waters is one of the most senior Democrats in Congress. In light of their recent loses, the left-wing media and establishment are desperate to keep their top players in the game. Enter Omar Navarro, another Republican trying to unseat Waters. When dismissed White House National Security Advisor Michael Flynn endorsed Navarro, the media quickly pointed out the Republican candidate’s notorious past. Last September the LAPD arrested the GOP hopeful for placing an illegal tracking device in his ex’s car. In 2016 Navarro ran for the seat, before any of the above revelations came out. He lost by a larger margin than any Republican since the year 2000, the last time the GOP won the district. The media is trying to tell you that there is nothing to see here. The race is over and Waters will safely stay in office. Having him as a perennial candidate — one who runs over and over without actually winning — is ideal for the Democrats and Waters. It’s a career politician and career candidate match made in swamp heaven. However, the GOP has an excellent chance of unseating a clingy, annoying and very unproductive Democrat. If they pick the right candidate in Duterte, they can also flip a longtime blue area and send waves across the country. Maybe its time for another red wave …
Is Duterte running for US Congress? He is, but it’s not that Duterte. Republican Filipino-American Edwin Duterte has joined the race for California’s 43rd Congressional District in next year’s US midterm election. While the Philippine president, who shares his last name with Edwin, is widely popular in the Philippines, it will be an uphill climb for the newbie Republican. He will be running against veteran Democrat politician Maxine Waters, who has served in the US House of Representatives since 1991. Waters won the 2016 election by 76.1 percent against her Republican rival. The district covers several cities in Los Angeles County, an area that historically votes Democrat. According to Duterte’s biography on his crowdfunding page, his father, who is from Pangasinan, migrated to the United States in 1967. In an interview with ABS-CBN’s North America news program Balitang America, he said he is “distantly related” to Rodrigo Duterte. Duterte describes himself in his biography as “a focused entrepreneur, a pro-life, conservative Republican who will support the right solutions to our health care system, veteran care, immigration, national debt, and employment problems, as well as support our Second Amendment (pro-gun rights).” The US’ midterm elections will take place in November 2018.
