Charge of operating a motor vehicle under the influence (2020)

Jan. 1, 1900

On April 16, 2020, Lewis was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence. According to a Laurel County sheriff's report, Lewis was found in his vehicle along a split rail fence in a ditch. The report also alleged that Lewis appeared unsteady, slurred his speech, and smelled of alcohol. During his arraignment, Lewis pleaded not guilty. According to the Times Tribune, Lewis' attorneys released a statement via Lewis' Facebook: "On April 16, 2020, at or before midnight, Mr. Lewis was returning to London after working the entire day in Frankfort. As he proceeded home, his vehicle struck a ditch and became immobile. He was not injured. Mr. Lewis was later charged by the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department with operating his vehicle under the influence...everyone following this matter keep an open mind and not reach any conclusions while the matter proceeds through the legal system." Lewis' trial was originally scheduled for September 23, 2020. After being postponed three times, it was scheduled for May 19, 2021.
