Demand from Congress: Citizens Need Cash Support during the COVID-19 crisis.
March 19, 2020The first phase of the Coronavirus stimulus package has been passed. Congress is working on the next phase now and we need to make sure that they include substantial, regular payments to as many people as possible during this critical economic recession.
Many members of Congress have created proposals for cash payments to citizens as part of the Stimulus, recognizing that this is critical to the health of our people and our economy. But Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi have voiced criticisms of aspects of cash-to-the-people support.
Let's help Congress do the right thing, by demanding they include substantial, regular payments to the people during this crisis. Getting cash into the hands of people is the most ethical and effective thing they can do right now.
Below are some of the proposals on the table right now that will quickly get large payments to people.
Rep. Maxine Waters: at least $2000 a month per adult, and $1000 a month per child.
Rep. Joe Kennedy III: immediate relief of $4000 to every adult who makes under 100k per year and $2000 to every adult who makes over 100k per year as well as $1000 for every child 18 or younger.
Sen. Bernie Sanders: $2000 per month to every person in the United States.
Emergency Money to the People: provides a $2,000 immediate cash payment to adults and children, with additional payments of at least $1,000 per person every three months. Announced by Representatives Tim Ryan and Ro Khanna and supported by Senators Michael Bennet, Cory Booker and Sherrod Brown.
Income Movement will print off all letters and deliver them to House and Senate leadership early next week so they can see the wealth of trans-partisan constituent support that exists for cash payments to the people.
