Campaign themes

The following issues were listed on Vogt's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, .

  • Taxes: Americans are being taxed too much, and it is time that we provide meaningful tax relief and reform for hard-working families. In Annapolis, I have held the line when liberal Democrats came calling for tax increases, and as your Congressman, I pledge that I will never cast a vote to raise a single tax on American workers, businesses, or families.
  • National Security: One of the most important priorities of the federal government is providing for the defense of the United States of America. Congress and the President must take every action necessary and utilize every resource available to ensure that our nation is secure, that American citizens and interests are protected, and that we continue to be the world’s preeminent global power.
  • Second Amendment: I have consistently been recognized as one of the most vocal advocates that gun owners have in the state legislature. I believe that the Second Amendment means exactly what it says – the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
  • Energy: Barack Obama’s war on energy and war on Western Maryland must end. The Western Maryland economy was built on coal, natural gas, and energy production. The policies championed by Congressman John Delaney and implemented by Obama’s EPA have been disastrous for this region, and these policies threaten the economic livelihoods of families across this district.
  • Education: Our children receive the best education when the education system is left in the hands of teachers, parents, and local decision-makers. Common Core and PARCC testing have surrendered Maryland’s public education system to the federal government and bureaucrats in Washington. I have been the leading voice in the charge to overhaul Maryland’s education system, calling for Governor Hogan to use his authority to nullify Maryland’s agreement with PARCC and to return control of our public education system to the state government and local jurisdictions.
