Policy Positions

Oregon State Legislative Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Abortion & Reproductive

1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
- Pro-life

2. Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
- No

3. Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
- Yes

4. Other or expanded principles
- Abortion is between a woman and God. The rest of us, and especially government should not be involved or nosy in what women choose to do. Zero. The day public funds are available to all citizens to pay for ammunition for whatever their motives is the day we can revisit publicly funded abortions.

Budget, Spending, & Tax

Budget Stabilization:

Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing Oregon 's budget.

1. Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
- No

2. Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees?
- No

3. Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients?
- No

4. An income tax increase on any tax bracket?
- No

5. Other or expanded principles
- We need to cut 50-75% of state govt, and privatize or outsource. We must also cap # of state employees that are non mission-critical. Judges, the Governor, and Legislators should be banned from PERS, and implement lifetime ban on revolving lobbying door. Legislators should not so easily become lobbyists. This is very dangerous. Salem belongs to the people, not special interests.

Campaign Finance & Government Reform

1. Do you support any limits on campaign contributions to state candidates?
- Yes

2. Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
- Yes

3. Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
- Yes

4. Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
- Yes

5. Other or expanded principles
- At the end of the day, when we add a government regulation, we should be removing 5-10 off the books. That, and remove any red-tape in the entire state apparatus. On the area of campaign finance, this needs work. Established career politicians are almost impossible to unseat. I know. Because I am trying it. So there has to be a better way for citizens to run for office. This starts with 2 term term limits so that you can be in government elected office statewide for more than two terms regardless of seat. That be a good start.

Crime & Public Safety

1. Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
- Yes

2. Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
- Yes

3. Should a minor accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
- Yes

4. Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
- Yes

5. Other or expanded principles
- Reducing crime starts with gun safety and self-defense. We must make it easier for good citizens to purchase a firearm, secure training at a shooting facility near them, and provide continual training. We must lower the barrier to entry on this subject. That, and we must ramp up dollars for county law enforcement to continue to do what they do best in keeping our communities and neighborhoods safe and crime free. As we have added junior ROTC in our public schools, we must also add junior Deputies to create a pipeline to join the LEO ranks.

Economic

1. Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
- No

2. Do you support lowering state taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
- Yes

3. Do you support reducing state government regulations on the private sector?
- Yes

4. Do you support expanding access to unemployment benefits?
- No

5. Do you support requiring welfare applicants to pass a drug test in order to receive benefits?
- Yes

6. Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of Oregon ?
- No

7. Should landlords be required to provide relocation assistance to tenants displaced by a terminated lease or rent increase?
- No

8. Other or expanded principles
- We need to lower the legal age for folks to work. We need to lower the personal income tax to 4.5%. And, the government should implement statewide performance measures to evaluate all state personnel and outcomes, especially in life and death situations of Oregonians. That, and we must revisit welfare benefits. I am in favor of eliminating welfare benefits directly to the individual and direct those dollars to nonprofits who can provide warm meals, career training and other direct resources to these individuals so that they can get back on their feet.

Education

1. Do you support adopting federal education standards in Oregon ?
- No

2. Do you support state funding for charter schools?
- Yes

3. Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from Oregon high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
- No

4. Other or expanded principles
- We need to expand school choice. We need a cap on public university in-state tuition increases. A 50 percent increase in the same year is unconscionable. We must kill other programs and double the community colleges CTE funding ($70m) and increase per year. We must also have a cap on teacher: student ratio. 35:1 is unacceptable. It should be 15:1. On the high school front, we should provide middle schoolers the option to not go to high school and instead if they want to work, they should and should be punished, and provide seed money to start their careers.

Environment & Energy

1. Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
- No

2. Do you support state government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions?
- No

3. Do you support increasing state funding for clean drinking water initiatives?
- No

4. Do you support implementing cap-and-trade policies in Oregon that require in-state businesses to pay a carbon emissions tax?
- No

5. Other or expanded principles
- I am surprised I did not see forest management in any of these questions. To me, there is no difference between corn and tree farmers. The only difference is the time in which these are harvested. One is done, near yearly. And, the other is done every 50 years. So we need to decentralize this authority down to the counties and the local county commissioners in that area.

Gun

1. Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
- No

2. Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?
- No

3. Should teachers be allowed to bring guns into the classroom?
- Yes

4. Should a license be required for gun ownership?
- No

5. Other or expanded principles
- For starters, the right to bear arms shall not be infringed. That being said, background checks are already conducted when purchasing a firearm at an authorized FLL. At gun shows, cannot say. I have never been to one, but would hesitate to say yes. On school grounds, yes, teachers should be allowed to bring their firearm into the classroom. If they have the CHL, then they should be able to have it on them at all times. Concealed. On gun ownership, licenses, is too much. In the same way we do not require it for knife or baseball bat ownership.

Health

1. Should the state government increase funding for treatment facilities to combat opioid abuse?
- No

2. Do you support Medicaid expansion through Oregon 's health care programs?
- No

3. Do you support requiring individuals to purchase health care insurance?
- No

4. Do you support legislation that grants citizens the right to choose to die through euthanasia?
- No

5. Do you support eliminating religious exemptions for vaccinations?
- No

6. Other or expanded principles
- On healthcare, I am in favor of outsourcing healthcare back from the state (the two major agencies) back into the community and the private sector. This should be done through local health nonprofits and community-based health care organizations and eliminate the majority of these two public bureaucracies. We need to strengthen community healthcare, not state-based healthcare.

Social

1. Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in Oregon 's anti-discrimination laws?
- No

2. Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in Oregon 's anti-discrimination laws?
- No

3. Do you support greater efforts by Oregon state government in closing the pay gap between men and women?
- No

4. Other or expanded principles
- Why socio-economic social issues are not asked is beyond me. Issues on sexual orientation and gender identify is an individual personal choice and the state should not be involved. What the state should be involved in is whether an individual has the skill and will to make a living. Then work towards ensuring all Oregonians can live their best lives here in Oregon. On the issue of pay gap, I know many women who make more than men. If someone, regardless of gender, wants to earn more, then they will do what they need to do to get paid more.

Legislative Priorities

In the following area, please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- Cut state budget by 50 percent outsourcing many agencies into the private sector many which have already outlived their life, and whereby technology can easily do. We need to reduce the personal income tax to 4.5 percent, eliminate PERS for executive, judicial and legislative branches and kill the revolving lobby door, institute 2 term term limits to give the government back to the people. We need to balance the state budget, institute transparency in the budget, and ensure funding for law enforcement, state of the art buildings, classrooms and nutrition, and world-class roads and bridges.
