David Knight has a long, successful record of doing what is right for Georgians. As a CPA, he quickly became a leader at the Capitol in discussions on tax relief. David sees the crushing burden that federal taxes place on individuals and small businesses, and he is committed to keeping state taxes low.
When the economy started to falter several years ago, the federal government doubled down and tried to spend its way out of the recession. David and his fellow state legislators took a different path, prioritizing spending on education and cutting other areas so the state continued to have a balanced budget without raising taxes.
David has also strongly represented the values most important to citizens of the 130th District, upholding the true intent of the 2nd Amendment, protecting life, and fighting for traditional marriage.
Stopping
There are some in Georgia who think we should fully implement Obamacare in Georgia. This would be a disaster, placing even more regulations on small businesses, increasing onerous government mandates, and spending billions of tax dollars that we simply don't have.
David is committed to stopping unfunded federal mandates in Georgia. He opposed Medicaid expansion that would have cost the state billions over the next few years, taking money away from education. And, David voted to prohibit all state agencies from assisting in any way with the implementation of this disastrous policy.
HB 943 - Georgia Healthcare Freedom Act (originally HB 707)
This bill firmly established that neither the state of Georgia nor any of its departments will use money or human resources to advance the voluntary expansion of the state's eligibility for medical assistance in furtherance of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare.) The measure also prohibits the state of Georgia from creating an insurance exchange in compliance with the ACA (Obamacare).
HB 990 - Medicaid Expansion Limitations
This bill prohibits any department, board, or representative of Georgia from expanding the eligibility of Medicaid without legislative approval. Without this important protection in place any future Governor could unilaterally commit the state to billions of dollars in Medicaid expansion costs without going through the legislature. This is simply unacceptable given our commitment to responsible and balanced budgets.
