Hite resigned from the Ohio State Senate on October 16, 2017, releasing a statement on Twitter saying his resignation was related to both health issues and what he called "inappropriate behavior" with a legislative staffer. On October 28, the Associated Press reported that the director of the Ohio Legislative Service Commission had written a memo detailing allegations of sexual harassment against Hite from August to October in 2017. Following the memo's release, Hite issued a statement saying that it contained inaccuracies.
