See also: Sexual assault and harassment in American politics (2017-2018) Bobby Scott was mentioned during a wave of sexual assault and misconduct allegations in 2017 and 2018. On December 15, M. Reese Everson, a former fellow for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF), said that Scott had sexually harassed her in 2013. Everson held a news conference where she said that Scott had touched her knee and asked her to flirt with him. She also said that was terminated from her position by Scott because she declined his advances and was later prevented from obtaining other positions related to congressional politics because the CBCF would not provide her with a recommendation letter. According to a CBCF aide, Everson was terminated by the CBCF, not by Scott. In response to the allegations, Scott said, “I absolutely deny this allegation of misconduct. I have never sexually harassed anyone.” He also said, “The recent national discussion about sexual harassment is valued and important to our work to continue to make the workplace free from harassment and discrimination. False allegations will squander this momentous opportunity for dialogue on meaningful change in the workplace. I am confident that this false allegation will be seen for what it is when the facts are adequately reviewed."
