It's almost like Democrats come up with the most outrageous policies and positions on purpose. 

That's the only way to describe why liberals are now backing the idea of defunding police departments and having literally no one to keep communities safe across the country following the death of George Floyd.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is calling on Democrats not to shy away from the "defund the police" slogan and thinks they should go all-in on this "movement."

The New York socialist lawmaker took to Twitter to argue that “Lots of DC insiders are criticizing frontline activists over political feasibility and saying they need a new slogan.”

She continued, “But poll-tested slogans and electoral feasibility is not the activists’ job. Their job is to organize support and transform public opinion, which they are doing.”

She continued to rant in a series of tweets on the issue.

She wrote, “‘Defund’ means that Black [and] Brown communities are asking for the same budget priorities that White communities have already created for themselves: schooling [is greater than] police, etc.”

“People asked in other ways, but were always told ‘No, how do you pay for it?’ So they found the line item,” she added.

She also slammed politicians for trying to “repackage this whole conversation to make it palatable for largely affluent, white suburban ‘swing’ voters.”

This is going to be a major problem for Democrats.

The far-left side of the party is supporting this radical, dangerous movement.

But presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s campaign was asked about this new push and actually said the former vice president does not support this.

In a statement on Monday, Biden campaign spokesman Andrew Bates said, “As his criminal justice proposal made clear months ago, Vice President Biden does not believe that police should be defunded.”

“He hears and shares the deep grief and frustration of those calling out for change, and is driven to ensure that justice is done and that we put a stop to this terrible pain,” Bates added.

He continued:

“Biden supports the urgent need for reform — including funding for public schools, summer programs, and mental health and substance abuse treatment separate from funding for policing — so that officers can focus on the job of policing. This also means funding community policing programs that improve relationships between officers and residents, and provides the training that is needed to avert tragic, unjustifiable deaths.”

On Monday, President Donald Trump declared that as many as 99.9 percent of the nation’s officers are “great, great people” and said he would never support the idea of defunding police departments, The Hill reported.

“There won’t be defunding,” Trump said. “There won’t be dismantling of our police. There’s not going to be any disbanding of our police.”

“Our police have been letting us live in peace, and we want to make sure we don’t have any bad actors in there and sometimes we’ll see some horrible things like we witnessed recently, but I say 99.9 — let’s go with 99 percent of them — great, great people and they’ve done jobs that are record setting,” Trump said.
