Abortion & Reproductive Issues:

Pro-choice a) Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Yes b) Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
Yes c) Should abortion be legal when the life of the woman is endangered?
No d) Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
e) Other or expanded principles:
I am a firm believer in the Sanctity of Life. However, to the same extent that the Right to Life is granted to the unborn, it must be similarly granted to those made vulnerable by lack of health care, dangers to our environment, and the proliferation of warfare throughout the world. Only then can individuals claim without hypocrisy to be "Pro Life." Concerning a woman's right to make her own healthcare decisions, the framework constructed by the Roe v. Wade decision is appropriate for an extremely difficult and personal decision that must be made by individuals, not the government.

Budget, Spending, & Tax Issues:

1) Budget Stabilization:
Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing New Jersey's budget.
No a) Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions
No b) Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees
No c) Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients
Yes d) An income tax increase on any tax bracket
e) Other or expanded principles:
New Jersey's budget can be balanced through the elimination of government waste, ending corruption, and the increase of income taxes on select brackets, not through across-the-board taxation. The only reason to increase income taxes on all tax brackets would the to offset my proposed elimination of property taxes for school funding with an appropriately scaled progressive income tax. Additional revenue streams can also be attained through the development of new tax revenue streams, and putting a stop to "corporate welfare" policies. Breaking promises that have been made to state employees is unacceptable.

Campaign Finance & Government Reform Issues:

a) Do you support limits on the following types of contributions for state candidates?
Yes 1) Individual
Yes 2) Political Action Committee
Yes 3) Corporate
No 4) Political Party
Yes b) Do you support requiring full and timely disclosure of campaign finance information?
Yes c) Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Yes d) Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
No e) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
f) Other or expanded principles:
Regarding voter identification, I believe all U.S. citizens should be automatically registered to vote upon reaching their 18th birthday. Voter registration in New Jersey should be opt-out, not opt-in. Therefore, the only means practically necessary for ensuring voter identity would be a simple signature verification system.

Crime & Public Safety Issues:

No a) Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes b) Do you support alternatives to incarceration for certain non-violent offenders, such as mandatory counseling or substance abuse treatment?
Yes c) Do you support legalizing the possession of small amounts of marijuana?
No d) Should a minor accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
No e) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
Yes f) Do you support delaying the seizure of assets by law enforcement officials until after a conviction?
g) Other or expanded principles:

Economic Issues:

Yes a) Do you support government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes b) Do you support lowering taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
No c) Do you support reducing government regulations on the private sector?
Yes d) Do you support expanding access to unemployment benefits?
No e) Do you support requiring welfare applicants to pass a drug test in order to receive benefits?
Yes f) Do you support an increase of the minimum wage?
Yes g) Do you support legalized state-sponsored sports betting in New Jersey?
No h) Do you support a tax on short-term housing rentals in New Jersey?
i) Other or expanded principles:

Education Issues:

Yes a) Do you support the national Common Core State Standards initiative?
No b) Do you support state funding for charter schools?
Yes c) Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from New Jersey high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities in New Jersey?
d) Other or expanded principles:
While I support the Common Core State Standards approach in theory, an unacceptable consequence of its resulting policies has been an excessive reliance on standardized testing. Common Core standards should be retained as guidelines and targets, but individual authority over curriculum development must be returned to the local boards of education and especially to individual teachers themselves.

Environment & Energy Issues:

Yes a) Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
Yes b) Do you support state funding for open space preservation?
Yes c) Do you support government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions?
d) Other or expanded principles:

Gun Issues:

Yes a) Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
Yes b) Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?
Yes c) Should citizens be allowed to carry concealed guns?
Yes d) Should a license be required for gun possession?
e) Other or expanded principles:
Guns must be kept out of the hands of not only violent criminals, but those who are likely to use a firearm in an act of violent crime. Therefore, concealed carry permits and other forms of legal gun ownership must be denied to individuals who are perpetrators of domestic violence and/or terroristic threats.

Health Issues:

Yes a) Do you support a universally-accessible, publicly-administered health insurance option?
Yes b) Do you support Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
No c) Do you support requiring individuals to purchase health care insurance?
Yes d) Do you support allowing doctors to prescribe marijuana to their patients for medicinal purposes?
e) Other or expanded principles:

Social Issues:

Yes a) Do you support same-sex marriage?
Yes b) Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in New Jersey's anti-discrimination laws?
Yes c) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in New Jersey's anti-discrimination laws?
d) Other or expanded principles:

Legislative Priorities:

In the following area, please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.

TRANSPORTATION: Sustainable transportation policy is the key to revitalizing economic growth and vitality. We need a transportation network connecting our municipalities on a local and statewide level, not funneling resources away from New Jersey into cities in other states.

ECOLOGICAL PROTECTION: My district is one of the few remaining pristine environments in New Jersey. I aim to keep it that way, not just because of the ecological need, but also because it will be a boon to our economy.

PROPERTY TAXES: A fairer, more effective school funding model, and single-payer healthcare would allow for a significant reduction in property taxes.
