New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez (R) appointed Johnson to serve as the New Mexico state auditor on December 1, 2017. He succeeded former officeholder Tim Keller (D), who was elected mayor of Albuquerque, New Mexico, in November 2017.Johnson served as state auditor from 2017 to 2019.
