Ardoin became the Republican acting Louisiana secretary of state in May 2018. He replaced Tom Schedler who resigned due to allegations of sexual misconduct. Ardoin won election to the remainder of Schedler's term in November 2018.
Prior to his elevation as secretary of state, Ardoin served as first assistant secretary of state.
