On June 27, 2014, Rosa pleaded guilty to committing marriage fraud in order to become a U.S. citizen. She resigned from office the same day. Born in the Dominican Republic, Rosa admitted in federal court that she got married to "regularize [her] immigration status." Her corruption charges also included two counts of making false statements and another charge that related to a bankruptcy proceeding. On October 3, 2014, Rosa was sentenced to a year and a day in prison.
