Policy Positions

Top Campaign Priorities

Protect the Constitution

Ross will always fight to uphold the rule of law. The Constitution is the highest legal authority, and Ross will aggressively protect it every day.

Protect the Innocent and Vulnerable

Ross’ desire to protect the most vulnerable among us is one of his deepest callings, and he will fight diligently to keep Florida safe.

Protect Conservative Values

A proven conservative leader in the Florida Legislature, Ross will strive to protect the conservative values that are so important to him. He will keep government small and limited, protect family values and uphold the rule of law.

Important Issues

President Trump

It is hard to express the level of importance of the achievements of President Trump so far in his first term. I am proud to support him and reject those that seek to destroy him and our country. In Congress, I will be a partner for the President to build upon this success.

Life

Life begins at conception and MUST be protected at all costs. I will protect the unborn and fight to eliminate all government funding of Planned Parenthood.

Second Amendment

The 2nd Amendment is critically important and it must be preserved. I will fight to protect your constitutional right to bear arms and will strive to make life easier for law abiding gun owners.

Immigration

Our immigration system is broken and fixing it is a top priority. We must secure our borders, build a wall and stop illegal immigration. We also need to reform our immigration system to reward those wanting to come to America with skills, work ethic and a love of the American way of life.

Veterans

There is no group of people I value more than veterans of our armed forces. Freedom certainly isn't free. It is paid for in the blood and health of our warriors and our federal government should be ashamed at their neglect. ALL veterans should be able to take their VA benefits to ANY healthcare provider. It must be easier and cheaper for these heroes. They deserve it and I will always fight to protect them for the sacrifices they have given to protect us.

Healthcare

I am embarrassed that Republicans in Congress have not yet fully repealed Obamacare. I will vote to FULLY repeal Obamacare in Congress. Not a partial repeal, not a half measure...a full repeal. I will then work to establish a market-based healthcare system that encourages competition, reduces costs to consumers and restores the doctor-patient relationship once and for all.

Jobs and the Economy

Bureaucratic red tape and over-regulation are killing our small businesses. President Trump is working hard to roll back regulations, but there is still a lot of work to be done. In Congress, I’ll work to get the government out of the way so our entrepreneurs can do what they do best – innovate and create jobs for hardworking Americans.

National Security

We have the greatest military in the world and we need to ensure that we continue to support them with funding for training and provide them the equipment they need. Our service members are out there every day defending our constitution and way of life and we owe it to them to make sure they have everything they need to do their job, protect us and come home safe.

Social Security

I was brought up to believe that if you made a promise, you have to keep that promise. I think that is especially true of Medicare and Social Security. Our nation has made a promise to our seniors, and it’s our duty to keep it. I am against changing or reducing any benefits for those at or near retirement.

Agriculture

In Hillsborough, Polk and Lake counties the agriculture industry is incredibly important. From the critical strawberry and citrus industries to our nursery growers and ranchers, I will be a strong advocate for our agriculture industry and make sure we get the fair deals they deserve on regulations, labor and international trade.

Education

The education of our children is too important to be left in the hands of the federal government. Common Core’s one-size fits all policy is hurting students and making it harder for us to compete internationally. I’ll work to eliminate Common Core and return control of education to state and local governments.

National Debt

Congress, including Republicans, are on a runaway spending train. Our national debt and deficit are out of control and will ultimately lead to the end of our republic. I will ALWAYS seek to cut spending and reduce taxes. America needs Representatives smart and courageous enough to make a Balanced Budget Amendment a reality.

Rep. Ross Spano will ditch Florida Attorney General's race to run for Congress

Apr. 16, 2018

Photo via Ross Spano/Facebook State Rep. Ross Spano is planning to ditch the Florida Attorney General's race to run for Congress.  The Tampa Bay Times reports Spano will announce Monday that he's running for the seat vacated by U.S. Rep. Dennis Ross. The Lakeland Republican announced last week that he wouldn't run for re-election in Congressional District 15, which includes parts of Lake, Hillsborough and Polk counties.  Spano, R-Dover, was one of four Republican candidates running for state attorney general.  Spano is, perhaps, best known for being the sponsor of a resolution declaring pornography a "public health risk" in the Florida House this past session. The resolution recognized the health risk created by explicit material and acknowledged "the need for education, prevention, research and policy change to protect citizens of this state."  Spano's resolution garnered enough votes to pass in the House – while at the same time, a bill that would have actually made a difference in the lives of Floridians failed. State lawmakers declined to take up a measure that would ban the sale and possession of assault weapons and large-capacity ammunition magazines.  While being watched by survivors of the Parkland high school mass shooting, Florida lawmakers passed Spano's porn resolution while refusing to debate semiautomatic assault weapons. Spano joined most Republicans in a 76-36 voterejecting the bill from Orlando Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith.  Last year after Spano first filed a bill declaring porn a "public health crisis," Orlando Weekly discovered that Spano's Twitter account had "favorited" a tweet featuring a porn clip from adult entertainment company Reality Kings.  "With a thorough examination of my accounts, it will be easy to see that this is not my doing," Spano said after OW pointed out the thirsty like.  Stay on top of Orlando news and views. Ross Spano comes out swinging in Republican AG Race

Mar. 2, 2018

Florida’s Republican primary race to be the next state Attorney General is stewing to be one of the most contentious in recent history, as several of the announced candidates in the race are now actively engaging in a political fist fight with each other. Rep. Jay Fant (R) ongoing Jiu Jitsu, ‘you are a liberal Democrat’ political assault against the presumed frontrunner in the race, former Judge Ashley Moody (R), has stolen much of the limelight in the race. While Rep. Frank White (R) has been quite for the most part, his colleague in the Florida House of Representatives Ross Spano (R) has not. Spano, the married father of 4 and commercial litigation attorney from the Tampa area, has come out swinging with conservative and work experience bona fides. Spano told The Floridian that the reason why he is running to replace outgoing AG Pam Bondi is because he has always had an “indescribable passion for justice,” adding that his personal experience of having to push back against political “bullies” who have told him to “wait his turn” and “step down” because he was not the “chosen one” in the AG race. “At some point in your life when you will have to stand up to the bullies, sometimes it may will cost you everything, it usually requires sacrifice, and it always requires courage,” said Spano. When asked what his advantages over the other candidates in the race were, Spano cited that his 20 years of litigating 500 cases, possible as much as 1000 cases, made him the right man for the job. Because Spano, Fant, and White have been in Tallahassee working through the legislative session, Moody has been able to freely hit the road and deliver her message to Republican groups around the state. Expect that Fant, Spano and White will do the same shortly after the session concludes this week.
