Charges were brought against Ross for allegedly participating in a conspiracy to buy and sell votes for a gambling bill. In a ruling made on July 28, 2011, U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson denied the defense's motions for a judgment of acquittal. He refused to throw out the charges in the case despite some reservations he had claimed to have about the charges. Ross and a second defendant were acquitted of their charges. Other defendants, including Sen. Harri Anne Smith (I), were acquitted in a retrial in 2012.
